František Kop Quartet

The group originally assembled in early 1995 to perform at the Prague Spring music festival. The current line-up features bandleader František Kop (1959) on saxophones, Petr Malásek (1964) on piano, Martin Lehký (1973) on bass guitar, and Pavel Zbořil (1964) on drums. In its choice of repertoire, the band predominantely relies on writing its own music (Kop, Malásek) distinguished by sophisticated composition treatment of individual pieces, ranging across a wide spectrum of styles and inspired by multiple musical influences (blues, funk, latin, ethno, free). Nonetheless, the band by no means omits jazz standarts and pieces composed by such modern jazz giants as J. Coltrane, T. Monk and others.
